Voyageurs Cup pool: final standings

The Whitecaps saw off the Montreal Impact 2-0 in the second leg of the Voyageurs Cup final last Wednesday, and in the process won the trophy for the first time. Not the first time in the Canadian Championship era, but the first time since it was first awarded in 2002.

Not unlike the Blue Bombers failing to become champions in 25 years in a mostly 8-team league, this was (or should have been) a source of embarrassment for the club. So congrats to the 'Caps and to tournament MVP (and sole Canadian starter in the final), Russell Teibert.

As for my contest, a good portion of the entries had the correct 2-0 scoreline for Wednesday's game. This group included our champion, ADH, a first time winner.

The battle for last-place was a tight one between two Ottawa-based (?) Vs, but on a tiebreaker Pompey Canuck edged out Fussball_eh for the lanterne rouge. He'll be selecting the team scarf that goes to our winner.

Thanks for playing everyone. Should I feel motivated enough, we might do this again next year.

Thank goodness for the two-week layoff between legs of the Voyageurs Cup final between Montreal and Vancouver, because it took nearly that long for me to update my spreadsheets. Here are the standings heading into Wednesday's final.

Canadian content trendlines

Trendlines based on a less than complete set of data points, but illustrative of a disappointing season of Canadian content, with most teams declining since late June.

Montreal's spike is the result of the seemingly forgotten Wandrille Lefevre gaining citizenship.

Based on spreadsheet data viewable here.
